Autumn Recess, Winterlude

Mark Kauffman - Thursday, November 26, 2015

Greetings, All!

The High Season of Summer is long past. Autumn expires in less than a month, succumbing to the Eastern Shore Winterlude.

We at Waystead Inn—Berlin, Maryland's premier B&B— invite you to enjoy a few days away from The Grind. Let us help make your getaway from the Everyday as near pluperfect as we can muster. Take advantage of our lower, off-season rates.

And give us your yeas or nays on our new no-brainer breakfast concept rolling out with the New Year: You choose what you wish from a Menu! Check out next month's Newsletter for the lowdown.

What To Do in Berlin and Environs?

Kidding, right?

Explore and browse Berlin's scores of shops. Get that walking thing going. Discover some darned fine restaurants.

The Burley Oak Brewery, Berlin's rockin' micro-suds emporium, is always fun, and for those in want of bracing air and sea breezes, visit Ocean City and the Atlantic coast just nine miles East of the Inn. Or head down to Assateague Island for a trek along the sands and espy a pony or two. Fifteen minutes from the Inn.

Other Inn Stuff

We're introducing a new lunch concept in the New Year. We call it The Waystead Lunch Box Club, an online free delivery service featuring handmade soups, salads, and sandwiches. Everything made fresh in our commercial kitchen. Local delivery. Details to follow in the December newsletter.

Happy Thanksgiving from we three,

Lucy Van Voorhees

April in Berlin is always iffy

Mark Kauffman - Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Most years, it's an awful mess of rain, wind, and twenty shades of gray.

On the other hand, May brings flowers, sun, blooms, color, and light to this grand place. Is why we offer up an annual May Lawn Party for one and all who live in this fine Town. Including any Inn Guests who are lucky enough to reside here during the fete.

  • Croquet. Horseshoes. Badminton. Bocce.
  • These are the lawn games.
  • Champagne. Ripe strawberries, some coated with chocolate. Finger sandwiches: Watercress, chicken salad.
  • Dress up for this whimsy. A flowing dress and a fancy hat. A smart suit or sport coat and trousers ensemble. Some colorful silk at the throat. Maybe an old hat, too. It's all up to you.
  • A Free For All event at Waystead Inn, every May, as weather permits.

Waystead Whisperings Prologue

Mark Kauffman - Monday, June 29, 2015

Oh.

You found me.

Welcome.

Rather than call this a blog, we're calling it Writings.

These are Waystead Whisperings.

This effort's not so much to blow our horn than to blow away the smoke and glance off the mirrors of what constitutes a Bed & Breakfast operation.

No puffery. No holds barred. If truth be naked, bring on the prose.

Be you one who's stayed at the Inn, or be you a curious surfer, these stories, vignettes, monographs, and shibboleths had damned well better inform and entertain.

Otherwise, you're wasting your time.

If you wish, you may shoot me a comment at mark@waystead.com

Love to hear from you.

Editor

Semantic bagatelle? Not!

This is the first and last 'blog' that will appear on Waystead Inn's new website.

Why?

Because the Editor abhors the word 'blog.'

Spell it blahg, for heaven sake, given so many of them just plain stink, are self-serving drivel, and entertain only the author.

That's not what writing is meant to be, if it's meant to have any value or worth,

Thus ends this first and only blog.

Stay tuned next time, though.
